My kitten has a sever fracture in his front left leg...?

My husband and I took in a 5 week old male kitten, and then the other night, he tried to jump off the back of the couch... we took him to an er and they said it was a fractured humerus but when they say fractured the x-ray looked like it just snapped in the middle. The visit and x-rays alone cost 230. The doctor told me the surgery to fix it completely is 3000 before any after care... when i asked her about payment plans she practically laughed and said I should have thought about the responsibility of being a pet owner...and apparently no vet in NJ knows what a payment plan is and since the procedures are so expensive its frankly surprising, so needless to say no friend or family could help, but our friend told us its probably cheaper to amputate, and its an easier process for healing the kittens leg. But I have yet to find a definitive answer on how much an amputation actually costs on a kitten....anyone know???
