Two boys in my daughters school were suspended...?

I'm a vegan, my 10 year-old daughter is a vegetarian(she enjoys yogurt). Ever since she started school, numerous times she has come home reporting on how the boys at school tormented her. She even came home crying one day when they sneaked meat into her food(she ate it). She was also telling me that people kept calling her names like "malnourished" "tree-hugger". Soon after I went to talk to the principal about it and he had the boys suspended. I personally don't think it was over the top but I would like to know if you thought it was appropriate for me to take action.
