Do you think there is something wrong with people .........................?
Yes. It means that people are saying to themselves that there is something WRONG with how my face/body looks, even I might be the wrong GENDER, and modern surgery can make me "better". It's all fostering the fantasy illusion spoken of by Chris Hedges in "Empire of Illusion."
